Gods above and beneath, why does this place never see the light of day? What have these creatures done to be banished here in the Underdark?
Hmm. I should be a poet someday. Or a minstrel of sorts.
As we proceeded forth past the gate we unlocked, we found a cavern with a couple of deep gnomes and a number of obelisks. As Kallista tried to sneak in, she stepped on a rather noisy rock and caught the deep gnomes’ attention. She then responded with “What’s cooking good looking?”
I wonder about her more often than I should.
Despite Kallista’s quirky response, they both attacked. Before we could even try to hit them, Xillow lept forward and slew the both of them.
We noticed that behind the gnomes were several cages full of bears. Xillow then started grunting at them and began letting them go one by one.
I guess she speaks bear.
After letting each one out, she then came over to us and told us that these caves belonged to the bears and they wanted our help in clearing out the gnomes and anything else from it.
I didn’t really have any intentions of saying no to a couple of starved cave bears.
We then requested their help in finding the trail to our missing hand. One of the bears found it and gave us a direction to follow. We followed the trail until it lead us to yet another locked gate. This one, however, looked very ramshackle. Kallista opened it with ease. As we peered in, we noticed that it got darker the further down it went. Lycyra then used a spell of sorts to light up a stone and placed it upon Amnon’s staff to light the way for us.
Due to it’s brightness, we all were blinded for a second.
I miss the sunlight.
As we went further in and entered into another cavern, we began to hear moaning so Amnon put the stone into his pocket and darkness covered us. Lycyra then volunteered to scout ahead and looked in. She then came back and told us that there was a very strong scent of death and that the handprints lead into the pit. Seeing that there was no other way, Amnon tossed the rock of light into the pit. Once the rock landed, it was surrounded by decomposing duergar as well as grimlocks.
Yet there was another in the shadows. For after Amnon tossed the rock in, he was fired upon by a crossbow wielder. A battle ensued between us, the undead, and the mysterious shadowy figure in the darkness, which later turned out to be a deep gnome. During this battle, Lycyra was gravely injured as she was beset upon by various grimlocks and undead duergar. We slew the last one and the deep gnome was burnt to his bones by Twowit. Lycyra then found a note of instruction upon the deep gnome’s person to “curse the stone giants to spread madness.”
As if this place wasn’t insane enough as is.
One by one, our party began to make their way out of the pit for we finally found the hand in the pit. While Lycyra was being helped up, I looked and saw Amnon kneeling. It struck my curiosity as well as Xillow’s for we didn’t peg Amnon as the praying sort. As I pulled Amnon up, I took him aside to ask him if everything was alright, to which he replied that he was better than alright. I didn’t press the matter further.
Lycyra is resting now from her wounds that she sustained as well as the rest of the party.
I’m beginning to wonder if we’ll ever leave this place.
